These Shoes……

In our home hangs a long line of a few of my old pointe shoes–ones from special performances over the years.  Handsome said if I had saved all of them we could have lined the whole inside of the house.  {A professional dancer goes through about 1 pair a week—-I danced professionally for most of my life.  That’s a lot of shoes!}

If these shoes could talk—the stories they would tell.  Broken toes, killer choreography, the many different stages they appeared, the spotlight, blood, sweat, tears………the raveled, stained ribbons, torn satin, leftover rosin speak to my heart.

Handsome and I miss dancing very much.  That’s how we met.  I lost my dance partner in a ballet company—and Handsome replaced him. 🙂  Our days were 16+ hours of rehearsals, classes, and performances.  But once we started a family—it was time for a change.  Pointe shoes were nailed to the wall, and performances became only periodic.  That’s OK–wouldn’t change it for anything!  Our best performance so far has been as Mom & Dad. {We are still in rehearsal, actually—lots to learn.}

This week our three children are taking part in the NC Suzuki Festival—all 3 of them are classical Suzuki Violinists.  It is an intense week of study and performance with world-reknown violinists.  It ‘s a great week—and an honor to be there.  Each year Handsome and I are asked to lead ‘Dance Night’—-a fun night for the violinists and their families.  So, this week—it may not be our dance first love, ballet; but we will get to teach parents and kids how to have fun together dancing!  We’re teaching classical dances such as:  the Minuet, Waltz, Gavotte, and a folk dance called the Schottische.

Teaching the Waltz….

What are you doing fun this week?
