Poppy {BBQ} Sauce

My Dad {a.k.a. “Poppy”} makes the best BBQ sauce ever!  When I was little I would try to drink it!  Yeah.  I’m smart like that.

It has been so hot here this summer that we have not had as many cookouts as we usually do over the summer months.  Pure misery.

BUT, it has started cooling to a more human temperature—and we just might try to make up for lost time.

The bottle of this sauce in the pictures use to be full—but before I could take pictures, it was already dwindling……

Have fun with this sauce—you can spice it up for a hotter sauce if you’d like.  Just be sure to have several bottles on hand to fill up—it will go fast!

Poppy Sauce

1/4 cup vinegar

16-20 oz. of ketchup {add more or less ketchup to thin or thicken sauce}

1 Tbsp. crushed red pepper

1 tsp. Texas Pete

1 Tsp. black pepper

1/4 cup brown sugar or molasses

Combine all ingredients and stir over low/medium heat until well mixed.  Allow the sauce to cool before bottling it.

This sauce is great for:

brushing on meats while cooking on the grill

marinating

drinking dipping {my personal favorite}

baking {for a quick dinner—spread this over chicken breasts and bake at 350 until done}

It’s great on chicken, pork, ribs, and even steak!

It’s a treat to serve it warm—but not necessary.  Over ice is fine, too.

Enjoy!
