The Christmas Tree is Up!

Yippee!  The tree is up!

My family has been so wonderful doing most of the decorating this year while I have been trying to rest and recover.

I was able to help with some of it, though.

Our family tradition has been to pull out the decorations and like confetti…sprinkle them all over the house Thanksgiving Weekend.

We have a large majority of the decorating done….just a few more ‘piles’ that need places to go.

We’re not big into themes for decorating.  We definitely like vintage…..but our collections are more eclectic, I guess you would say.

The day after Thanksgiving this year we set up the Christmas Tree Decorating Treats. You have to have nourishment to decorate, you know.

Put on some fun Christmas Shows…..Rudolph, Frosty, The Night Before Christmas…..

And get to decorating!

Yep…our tree has the vintage, old fashioned BIG bulbs.  Love ’em!

And, of course, icicles.

Covering our tree are ornaments that have been made just for us…or by us.

Or special ornaments that commemorate a special place or time.

Each ornament has a story.  It’s a great walk down memory lane each year when we get the tree out.

Our annual Christmas card pic gets on the tree each year….in a mini size.

There’s the Mistletoe Fairy….mistletoe is very big around here.  I’ll share that story later.

The park bench…reminding Handsome & I of our favorite place that we use to go in between rehearsals to talk, have coffee, and enjoy each other’s company.

There’s a picture of my grandfather…who died just a few days before Christmas 13 years ago.

The dancers….

I could go on and on….

One of my favorite things to do at night once the house gets quiet is to spend time walking around the tree and remembering.

I’ll share our other tree on another day.  We have a smaller tree in the dining room that is just for our Old Worlde Ornament collection.

I love this time of the year! So much excitement and energy in the air.

What are some of your traditions? When do you put your tree up?

Merry, Merry~

  1. Gorgeous tree! I love the vintage look to it, besides I just love traditional trees. Your ornaments are so pretty and the big color lights, that’s how we did it in the 60’s, right? Thanks for sharing, hope you visit too. Hugs, FABBY

    • Thanks, Fabby! 🙂 I wasn’t born until almost ’70….but I think it was how it was done in the 60’s, which I love! 🙂 My grandfather covered their house in the giant BLUE bulbs each Christmas. haha Not sure why he picked blue….but, nevertheless it was Christmas to him. 🙂

  2. i love your tree!

we used to always use the big
    old-fashioned colored lights
until the fuses all went out

    i still have the strings
to take somewhere and get them fixed
    but never somehow remember to

    ah well

    i’ll just enjoy yours

thanks for sharing at Fridays Unfolded!
