Fun Summer Project…..

Last summer I shared this fun project that my daughter and I had fun doing…..since we had just started this blog back then I thought I’d share it again for all the newcomers! It’s a great summer project.

We have several milestones that are celebrated here at our home.  A couple are:  when you turn double-digits {10} you get a special one-on-one trip and when you turn 13 you get to re-do your room. (Not that rooms don’t evolve over the years—but 13 is the complete overhaul!)

Our middle daughter turned 13 last year and wanted a beach/surf room.  The colors, artwork, etc. are all about the beach and surfing.  We love sea glass and collect it every chance we get.  Her new room is beautiful sea glass colors……blues, aquas, a bit of pink, whites…….It is getting harder and harder to find because so many people now want it.  {It use to be so easy–no one wanted it and there was tons of it!}

Here’s a fun project we did last summer for her new beach bathroom. We took the old, gold mirror in her bathroom and spray painted it white.  Then went to the dollar store {yes, the dollar store!} and purchased several bags of sea glass.  Then we had fun adding some neat glass finds that we recently gathered from the creeks and rivers in the mountains.

This bee was our constant companion for this project….did he think these were flowers???!!!

I love this neat antique Sprite bottle shard that we found!  I think it is my favorite addition.

Or this old bottle bottom?

Or is it this old brown bottle bottom?

Or the mouth of this bottle?

We had fun adding the glass finds from the mountains—our family’s favorite place!  So we ended up with a mirror from the best of both places–the beach and the mountains!

{Attractive hand picture—what is that ‘The Claw’ ?}

a mirror {duh!}

paint–if the mirror is not already the color you desire

sea glass {and other unique glass, if you’d like}

hot glue gun and glue

1. Spray paint mirror {if needed}

2.  Begin in one corner and randomly glue your sea glass onto the mirror.  I, personally, would have wanted to stack the sea glass and cover the entire mirror with the glass so the frame would not show—but my daughter liked the look of the frame still showing, so we went with that.

3.  Add on any other fun embellishments—other unique glass, trinkets, shells, etc.  Anything would be fun!

4.  Hang it up!

What fun projects are you up to this summer?

  1. What fun. Thanks for the idea I just took down a mirror from the hallway and wanted to replace it, with another updated mirror. It’s been hard to find something I liked. I think now I’ll just freshen up the old one.

  2. What a fun beautiful idea! A Glorious way to spend time with your daughter – and it is truly bueatiful! Delightsome post! I appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,

  3. I have been trying to find sea glass everywhere. I’ll try the Dollar Store. Thanks! Cool project! Thank you for joining me at Home Sweet Home!
