Dreaming of Sleeping Porches….

We absolutely LOVE our front porch….and use it everyday.  It’s therapy.

I would love to have a sleeping porch.  Sleeping porches came about long ago – mainly in the south – when there was no air condition.  It was much cooler in the evenings outside because there was air movement.  So, beds were pulled out onto the porches for the night.

Here are some I am drooling over…..

  1. Thanks for this post. It brought back wonderful memories of the time I along with my 2 daughters visited a friend in Boston and we went to her lake house and we slept on her porch. Natures music is among some of the best. Thanks.

    • Aren’t they, though! I sleep so much better when all of our windows are open and I can hear the night sounds….it would be incredible to be completely outside on a porch!

    • Shucks! We just love our porch….we eat almost 3 meals a day on it, it’s our therapy….but it’s not a sleeping porch. Maybe someday…..

  2. I just love the idea, We have whats called a “Lanai”. Its a screened room I have the lodge deco going on with the bears, fish and cool wooden signs such as “Lodge”. The curtain is a old fish net with bueys It would be great for sleeping but I live a few miles from the everglades and we have weekly visits from bears ,coyotes and panthers, actually my son slept out on the compy oversized sofa and woke up with a racoon on his side lol. I think I’ll sleep inside. But the porches are lovely !

  3. Our cottage had a sleeping porch when we bought it. It is cooler out there, but the birds are really loud early in the morning. So, while there is a great day bed out there that people do use for naps we rarely sleep the whole night out there.
