How to Remove Door Hinges…..

I will warn you early on…these are not the best pictures.  But I think you will be able to get the idea…..which is: it is easy to replace hinges and they make a world of difference!

We love the doors at Oak Cottage…..but the hinges have always been a sore spot.  They were not looking so pretty…and were covered in old paint.  We are working on changing all of our interior hardware to oil rubbed bronze.  We knew that doing it all at once would definitely overwhelm the budget!  So, we have done it room-by-room.  By doing it that way it really isn’t that big of a deal. After a few months the whole house will be done.

While working on the master bath redo we were changing the hinges on the bathroom doors and realized there is a much easier way to change hinges than to remove all the old ones and then put up new ones.  It made the project go so much faster….and pretty much painless.

Handsome removed the middle hinge and replaced it with the new one….then moved on to the top hinge, and then the bottom.  The door never came out of the jam and it was quick and easy! Woohoo! You don’t have to worry about not aligning the new hinges correctly and having a wonky door.

  1. Are you painting them all? I bought the oiled rubbed bronze paint for all mine but I wondered if the hinges would freeze up after painting?

Love to hear from you guys.......
