DIY Carrera Marble Painted Kitchen Counters

After we put white subway tile in the kitchen we always planned on installing cement countertops…..but we had to find our farmhouse sink first.  We have been looking and looking. Can you believe that after I told my Dad that we were looking for a farmhouse sink he said that he had just cleaned out my grandmother’s {his mother’s}…the one in their FARMHOUSE and that he had grown up with! Arrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh!

Oh well. The search continued.  We couldn’t redo the counters until we had the sink, because they would need to be created around it. While we have been patiently waiting I started thinking……would I rather have cement countertops or Carrera marble? We are trying to lighten up this small kitchen….and white Carrera would certainly do that.

So back in August I decided to paint the kitchen counters…..with the same techniques that  I used for all of our other counters….you can find it here……and have quick, DIY Carrera!

Here are our counters before…..

Here are the counters with just two coats of Old White ASCP.

Here are some pics after I started adding the veins and repairing nicks in the old counter.

I sanded and feathered the veins and then used Polycrylic for a sealer……3 coats. I have decided that I like Polycrylic as a sealer MUCH better than polyurethane because it doesn’t yellow.

I think I love it!

And guess what?  When I was in Atlanta last week…..we FOUND our farmhouse sink. And, yes, it did come home with us.  We hope to get it put in by the end of the month, but we’ll see…….

  1. Love your blog and use many of your tips and techniques. Would LOVE to win the Moen shower faucet for our main floor bathroom…the ugly 53″ wide 12 ‘ long bathroom. Yes, that’s right, it’s just over 4 feet wide and 12 feet long…141 yr old houses have many warts, this is our worst one! (but that new Moen shower could help transform it)

Love to hear from you guys.......
