Thanksgiving Traditions

Do you have any fun Thanksgiving traditions?

Over the years as the kids have grown we have special books that we used to read each Thanksgiving…and many we still do.

We also start our Thankful Boxes on November 1st…you can read about them here.

Of course there is the Turkey and all the trimmings……

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade…….

And seeing who gets the wishbone…….

We also have fun with decorations and doing fun things with our table settings, add some special trivia to our dinners in the evening, and like to make little bags of treats for each person that will be at the Thanksgiving table at my parents’ house.

Here are some fun Thanksgiving printables that I shared last year.

If you live in the US…….what are some neat traditions that you and your family  have for Thanksgiving?

Feeling blessed and thankful…..

Thanksgiving Cake….YUM!? or YUCK!?

Definitely would be something different for your Thanksgiving Meal….

It is the entire meal rolled into one cake…

Yes, it is not as it first appears.  No ma’am. It is the turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, etc.

all in ONE ‘cake’.  It definitely gets a response…not sure what kind.

Part of me wants to try it….part of me want to say YUCK!

What do you think?

I’m looking forward to wonderful food and time with family tomorrow…I hope you are, as well.

May you be filled to the brim with blessings and great eats. 🙂

Now, get busy cooking this cake……and let me know how it goes!

Some Fun Food for the Weekend….

Thought these would be some fun autumn/Thanksgiving treats for the upcoming week….

Thought these were the neatest idea:

Hope you have a great weekend~

Thanksgiving Tables…..

We go to my parents’ home for our Thanksgiving meal…and I am looking forward to it!

So, it is usually not a meal that I think a lot about…although I know that one day it will be my turn.

And it will be an honor.

We have the big Christmas Dinner here at our home…and I have a lot of fun setting the table and cooking for it.

Seeing these wonderful Thanksgiving table settings made we want to do a special Thanksgiving  meal, as well!

Aren’t they wonderful?

Have a great day~

Thanksgiving Mantel……

It was fun to change out the mantel a bit for Thanksgiving.

We’ve only had this mantel for a few months….15 years of living in this house and we’ve never had a mantel!

So, it’s like a fun, new toy.

Here’s a peek at what it looks like right now…..

{Pictures in this room always look so dark…but, it’s not actually this dark in here. hmmmm……}

Here is the Thanksgiving Printable that I shared a couple of weeks ago.  You can print it out for free here.

The silver turkey that is holding it is actually a place card holder from Pottery Barn. {In stores only.}

Love this turkey that I found at Pottery Barn this year! 🙂

“Eucharisto” is the Greek word for ‘thanksgiving’……giving thanks to God.

These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago when it was still 80 degrees outside…now that it has cooled off we have removed the books and been enjoying wonderful fires in the fireplace.  yay!  Fireplace fires are pure therapy.  The sounds. The smell. Soothes the soul.

So you have a mantel?  If you do….do you change it several times a year, or do you keep it the same year round?

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is just 9 days away!

I’m ready….

Thankful~

Thankful Boxes

Since my oldest was 3 we have been enjoying a fun tradition around here:

Thankful Boxes

When my son was 3 we let him decorate an empty baby wipe container and made it The Thankful Box.

When our girls were old enough they did their own…and they wanted it just like their big brothers!

Now that they are older I was thinking we could update the Thankful Boxes..I even had a neat idea of making new ones.

They would have no part of it! The Thankful Boxes had to be the ones that they had always used. 🙂

What is a Thankful Box, you say? I’m glad you asked.

Beginning on November 1st…..each day one thing is written on a little slip of paper that they are thankful for….and put into their box.

On Thanksgiving Day we read through all the slips of paper.

Each year we try to use a different color for the paper slips…and we always put the year on each slip.

It’s so much fun to look back over all the years….to see the things that they were thankful for when they were 4 vs. now when they are teens.

It’s a fun time!

Here’s what you need to make your own Thankful Box:

1. Any empty box or container

2. Fun way to decorate…any way you’d like

3.  A little sign that says “Thankful or Thankfulness Box”

4.  Small strips of paper and a pen or marker

You just can’t be too thankful!

Blessings~

Autumn Inspiration {Day 28} ::: Thanksgiving Printable

I found these wonderful silver {pewter?} turkeys at Pottery Barn not too long ago.

They were meant as place card holders…but I purchased just one and used it

on our Thanksgiving mantel to hold this card that I made last week:

Here is the PDF:

Feel free to click on it and print it out to the size you wish and enjoy! If your computer shows it as a very small size…choose to print it at a larger percentage!

The weekend is almost here!
